Quote for the day
“Your kids require you most of all to love them for who they are, not to spend your whole time trying to correct them.” – Bill Ayers

Or to try to turn them into a more successful yourself...
Don't live vicariously through your children.

Who they are is caused by the influences around them. That being said, i have seen kids who are restricted to no video games, homeschooling, etc. They got in way over their heads (trouble, drugs, sex) when finally let some freedom at ages 15-18. That's not a quote, it's a comment on the original post, that is all.

You shield your children from the world, and they grow up ignorant of it.

Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.

As to raising kids...

If you attempt too much control you will lose it in some horrible way. If you practice too little there are too many variables to predict the outcome. Maybe there's a mid line that works. Obviously it would be different for each child. Just try to keep them from putting their eye out.

That said, I always told my daughter that if she made good choices then she could continue to make her own choices and I would only interfere when she made nefarious or clearly poorly considered choices. And this criteria was never based on what would be my choices. I stayed out of her way when she made good choices. Or at least choices that weren't dangerous. People, kids especially, learn best from their mistakes after all. And they thrive on freedom. Emma will be 26 in two weeks, still has both eyes and impresses me with her choices often. Especially the ones that wouldn't be my choices, but work for her.

Like that feeling when you're at a big mall and when you leave you REALLY think that empty space is where your car was!?! Hopefully you're wrong and you do end up finding your car. But it's crazy how the world shrinks in that moment. I thought Pee Wee's Big Adventure captured that moment perfectly.

In alignment wit Jazz's quote,.. I had a customer who made his living as a member of a team building tech businesses. Always as a partner rather than an employee. He was the second person I'd met that did this and my impression was that it's a boom or bust endeavor to the extreme. We got onto the subject of whether money can buy happiness and he said:

"I've been rich and I've been poor. Rich is better."
