OMG I was shocked to learn this. Huge fan. One of the best singers ever in the game and I've read he was a good guy too. Very sad. My heart goes out to his family.

This is hard for me to accept. I saw this on breaking news last night before they released cause of death and thought anything but a suicide. My heart goes out to all his family and friends.

Being as I live in the PNW (very near Seattle) there was a lot of mourning and grief about his death witnessed on local radio today. The station I was listening to played exclusively Chris Cornell material. As a result I got to hear several tracks that don't get much air and I have to say that many were my favorites over the songs we all know that get a ton of air. So that's worth checking out if your a fan as I am. But...
The word as of now is suicide. I have a reservation about this. Chris has children of 12, 13 and 16 years old. Now, if you listen to Chris's lyrics it's not hard to know that he was despondent about the nature of life. I wouldn't be surprised if he were clinically depressed, but being supported and propped up because of his talent and celebrity. It certainly wouldn't be the first time that happened. But short of actual mental illness, if you have kids that are still of rearing age, as all of Chris's are, you're not done yet no matter how much you dislike life. If you obligate someone who is not self sufficient to your circumstances, as is the case with choosing to have a child, you are committed to the end of your obligation. What he did to his kids cannot be forgiven. I'm still a huge fan of his art. I don't think I'm being to hard about this but I'm donning my flame suit anyway. And if anyone decides to chew on me for this, please consider that I accounted for the caveat of mental illness.

In England suicide was a crime until 1961; 'self-murder'. A failed attempt would lead to prosecution.

There is speculation the suicide may have been due to a side effect of his meds.
This is something that there needs to be much more scrutiny about. Do these (not uncommon) side effects make you less caring about your own safety? Maybe making poor decisions that will affect others, like when driving?
Maybe food for thought for another thread.
Very sad news, my thoughts go out to his family.

I don't attempt to understand celebrity suicides.
I prefer to concentrate on their great music, and art.
It was probably drug induced.
52 is pretty old for a Rocker!
It's a tough life out there on tour.
RIP, CHRIS !

His wife has said that he expressed concern about taking too much of his anxiety meds. She also said he was slurring. And she said that he was NOT suicidal at that time or in his daily life. The report is that he committed suicide by hanging. He was found on the bathroom FLOOR of his hotel room with a "band" around his neck. I don't see how you end up on the floor if you've hanged yourself successfully. That and the vague indication of a "band" around his neck.
I don't suppose we'll ever get to know what actually happened. R.I.P. Chris. We'll miss you.
